Description

A plaster statue of a girl holding flower bouquet. The statuoe is made by a German sculptor Lilli Wislicenius-Finzelberg (1872–1939). Her work was present at the exhibition of female artists at The Womans Building at the Chicago World’s Fair (participants from 46 different countries) in 1893. Since this statue was made in the same year, it may be that it was also in this exhibition. Artist usually made her statues out of bronze and the this statue, “Gänselieschen”, (A girl with geese), is very reminiscent of this girl in a plaster statue. In the same year (1893) Wislicenius-Finzelberg also made another plaster statue of a boy “Der kleine gratulant” (The little congratulant). This “Little Congratulations” statue was a personal gift to Otto von Bismarck on his 80th anniversary in 1895.

This statue of a girl with a bouquet of flowers was signed by Lilli Finzelberg in 1893 and has the number 23 or 28 on the back edge.
