A vintage 40s 50s impressive Finnish modern design hand-knotted wool wall rya rug. The rug ”Metsässä palaa” (The forest is burning.) is designed by Finnish textile artist Kirsti Ilvessalo (born 1920) in 1947. She is best known by her impressive wall rugs, a few hundred of which she has designed and which have been manufactured in her weaving factory. Between 1940 and 1960, Ilvessalo rose to become an internationally acclaimed designer.

This expressive work of art exemplifies Ilvessalo´s masterful use of color. One of these pieces belongs the MoMA collection in New York.
